The Best (Personal Trainer Approved) Smoothie Recipe

As a Chapel Hill personal trainer, I'm always looking for nutritious ways to provide my clients with the optimal fuel for their fitness journeys. This smoothie is packed with fruits, veggies, healthy fats, fiber and protein - each offering valuable vitamins, minerals and nutrients to support your gut, energy levels and overall health and fitness goals.

The great thing about smoothies is that you can pack them with superfood ingredients that target specific health and fitness needs. With the right blend of fruits, vegetables, proteins and healthy fats, you can create custom shakes that energize your workouts, aid muscle recovery, and help you feel your best. This power-packed smoothie does all of that and more.

The mixed frozen berries are loaded with antioxidants like anthocyanins, ellagic acid and resveratrol. Just one cup provides 4 grams of fiber and over 100% of your daily vitamin C. Berries are proven to boost immunity, improve heart health and aid weight loss.

Bananas contain high levels of potassium and magnesium critical for muscle contractions, nerve impulses and bone health. The 422 mg of potassium per banana can help reduce muscle cramps and headaches. Bananas also offer 3 grams of fiber to keep you feeling full.

Don't skip the leafy greens! Just one cup of kale provides over 100% of your daily vitamins A, C and K. These support immune function, vision and bone health. Kale also delivers calcium, potassium, folate and the antioxidant lutein for eye health.

For lasting protein, a scoop of protein powder provides around 20-25 grams. Protein rebuilds and repairs muscle fibers broken down during exercise. It also keeps you feeling fuller longer by regulating hunger hormones like ghrelin.

The almond milk offers a nutritious dairy-free alternative with just 60 calories per cup. It provides 37% of your daily calcium, 25% vitamin D and 2 grams of fat. Kefir packs probiotics to support gut health and immunity. Flaxseed delivers fiber, protein and anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids.

In total, this smoothie provides protein for muscle recovery, complex carbs for energy, fiber to control appetite, essential fatty acids for brain function, and a range of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Sip this nutrition-packed shake in the morning to fuel your workout or throughout the day to power through plateaus. As your Chapel Hill personal trainer, I highly recommend giving this smoothie a try!
